When the worst of times surround you, and the bill collectors hound you. . .hold your head up! When the world just isn’t fair to you, and encouragement is rare for you . . . hold your head up!
Life is not always fair or sympathetic to our schedule and personal situations. Sometimes life can hit us like a ton of bricks or surround us with obstacles that make us want to quit or not even try. Psalm 61 says, “Hear my cry, O God; give heed to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to You, when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
The Bible tells us that God is very near to us when we are going through difficult times. He cares about our problems and pains. “The Lord is near to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Ps. 34:18). When you are going through some of the rough waters of life, it is helpful just to know that God is with you, but there is more. There are strategies, truths and wisdom in the Bible that not only help us to survive but can enable us to thrive and rise above the tides of life. Romans 8:37 says, “But in all these things (trials etc.) we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.”
As Christians, filled with the Holy Spirit, we are far better prepared for the hard knocks of life than the ‘average Joe’ who doesn’t know the presence of God. Over the next few weeks we will explore the great wealth of strength and wisdom contained in the Bible that can help us survive, thrive and “hold your head high”. Psalm 24:7 says, “Lift up your heads O gates and be lifted up ancient doors that the King of glory may come in!”
The Lord is always there to help us hold our heads up and stand firm in the faith.
Hope to see you in the month of May,
