Freedom is an obvious theme for the month of July. Independence Day is a time we count our blessings for the profound freedoms we enjoy in America. No other nation in the world symbolizes and stands for freedom like the United States of America. Our founding fathers were truly wise to lock in all our principals of liberty by putting them in writing. The Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights are black & white, (ink on paper) reminders and protections of our freedoms. So be thankful and mindful of the blessing of living in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave one Nation under God, indivisible with liberties and justice for all. Happy 4th!
Speaking of freedom that is one of the main reasons Jesus did what He did. We are in the middle of a series on Paul’s letter to the Colossians. In his letter to the Colossian Church, Paul reminds us of the freedom we have in Christ. Christ has set us free from sin and death. We are free from empty philosophy and the ‘isims’ that are so common in many religions. Paul’s letter reminds us in black & white (ink on paper) that we are free from legalism, neutralism, mysticism, judgemental-ism and asceticism. We are free because we have trusted in what Jesus did for us at the cross and resurrection. He set us free, qualified us, rescued us (saved us) from darkness, transferred us to His Kingdom, and in Him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sin. We are free! That is the Good News!
